Search and Information 101

In this workshop we will highlight ways to understand, teach, and coach students and other teachers to search and engage in information outside of the four walls of the classroom.

  • Basics of search
  • Search tools, including Worldcat, Google Scholar, and Web of Knowledge
  • Ways to teach evaluation of information
  • Teaching about why things are where?  Understanding the economics of information
  • How to gather, sort, and store what you find
  • Taxonomies: How to find things later, esp. with others
  • Digital bookmarking: Using tools like Evernote, Diigo, Delicious, OneNote, Zotero
  • Thinking ahead about finding later
  • Preparing digital materials for use
